When we heard the name Koloss we knew Hutchinson were onto something big. And big it is! Koloss are the new Plus Size 27.5" tyres from Hutchinsion available in either the Taipan or Toro tread patterns and featuring new SpiderTech reinforcement.

Wait, whats Spidertech? We hear you saying. Let us explain. Hutchinson take their standard 66 TPI casing that would normally extend from bead to bead, but instead of stopping at the beads, they wrap around and come back up the sidewall to the beginning of the tread section. This construction technique gives you a double thickness casing on the sidewalls, stiffening them up and allowing the outside edge of the tread to bite more, while having a single thickness casing across the tread section, allowing for more deformation at low pressures so more of the tread can be making contact with the ground, no matter the terrain.

The Taipan is unlike any other Hutchinson tyre, starting completely from scratch their idea was to create a unique all-around performing XC tire that would excel in a variety of conditions.

New from Hutchinson, the Taipan Koloss is a "plus sized" 27.5 x 2.80 version and features modifications to the original Taipan tread pattern which is an excellent all round performer. The fragmented centre knobs provide great traction with low rolling resistance while shedding mud easily and the lateral knobs are sculpted to optimise braking and grip. Traditional MTB tyre design is terrain or condition limited, aimed for either dry or muddy, rocky or wet specific. The Taipan Koloss spans all these conditions through its unique width, tread, and knob design.

This Tubeless Ready 27.5 x 2.80 tyre features a folding bead design with a 66 TPI casing featuring Hutchinsons new SpiderTech construction and weighs in at 900 grams.

While you could easily run a pair of these tyres for dry and fast terrain, try running a Taipan Koloss on the rear with a Toro Koloss on the front for the ultimate all terrain setup.
